Bio
Cade McCall uses immersive virtual environments to study the role of the body in social interaction. His research examines the nonconscious mechanisms that we use to produce and perceive expressive motor behavior, looking at both nonverbal dynamics during social exchanges and their underlying neural representations. This work further explores how we express ourselves through virtual or technologically augmented bodies. In his applied research, McCall uses related ideas to design virtual environments for education and training. Cade received a Ph.D. in Social Psychology from the University of California, Santa Barbara where he is a postdoctoral scholar with the Institute for Collaborative Biotechnologies and the lab director of the Research Center for Virtual Environments and Behavior. His research has been published in Media Psychology, Social Influence, Self and Identity, Cyberpsychology and Behavior and PRESENCE. (Download CV)
